Lionel Messi prevents Barcelona from making another blunder in the transfer market after vetoing the best centre back in the world.

Lionel Messi had made his point while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo after the sacking of Ernesto Valverde following the loss in the semi-final on the Spanish Super Cup final to Athletic Bilbao. The captain of the squad stated in the interview with Mundo Deportivo that the current  Barcelona team lacks the depth and the quality to compete for the Champions League.

Despite receiving criticism for making a derogatory statement about the club on a public platform while also being the captain of the team, the Argentine forward expressed his opinions candidly and also spoke the truth.

The current squad has several players in their thirties such as Gerard Pique, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal, and Lionel Messi himself. What Leo Messi demands from the club is to build a stronger squad that would have a mix of young blood and experienced players.

However, like every other transfer market, the board at Barcelona has decided to continue with their hysterical signings. Don Balon claims that Neymar had communicated to the Catalan board that if they manage to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain then they would have to also sign his compatriot, Thiago Silva.

The former Barca winger believes that despite the age of the Brazilian defender, his years of experience and physical conditioning would benefit the current La Liga leaders for another season or two.

Don Balon claims that although Lionel Messi is only the captain of the club and a footballer, after all, the Argentine international also has an important say when the club decides on transfers and the captain has reportedly vetoed the possibility of landing Thiago Silva.

Barca does not require another aged player who is closer to retiring despite his years of experience and the quality he possess. Lionel Messi once again has come to the rescue of the club by preventing them from making another hysterical signing.

Meanwhile, Barcelona continues their search for a potential replacement for Gerard Pique, and another Brazilian defender who has been added to the agenda as a replacement is PSG’s, Marquinhos.
