Barcelona considers dropping Lautaro Martinez after Inter Milan continues to prolong the negotiations and the Catalan club has considered signing a more reliant cheaper alternative.

The Bundesliga had resumed on the 16th of May and Erling Haaland was the first player to find the net after the suspension of all the major football leagues. Borussia Dortmund hit the ground running as they cruised past their arch-rivals, Schalke 04, by a dominant scoreline of 4 goals to nil.

RB Leipzig played SC Freiburg at home and the game ended as a draw with one goal to each side. However, RB Leipzig’s best performing striker for the past few Bundesliga seasons, Timo Werner, failed to find the net after almost 60 days of inactivity.

The German striker has been phenomenal for RB Leipzig after performing consistently for a few seasons, Timo Werner has been heavily linked with Barcelona and Liverpool for a possible transfer in the summer market.

Jurgen Klopp’s side was tipped as the favourites to win the race for the 60 million euro striker until the Reds had to pull out from the operation as they currently face a severe financial strain due to the adverse effects of the pandemic.

With Liverpool dropping out from the race, the Catalan club can cash in on the young striker. Earlier in the summer, the board at Barca was adamant about signing Lautaro Martinez who has risen to fame this season after scoring 16 goals in 31 games for Antonio Conte’s side.

Lionel Messi values his compatriot at the San Siro very highly and believes that the addition of the Inter Milan striker would pay off in the future since the striker has shown tremendous potential this season to turn into one of the very best.

The issue that the current La Liga leaders face is the price that the Italian Giants are asking for their Argentine striker. After having one brilliant season in the topflight division of Italy, Inter Milan has set the price for their striker at 111 million euros. It would be a massive risk for Bartomeu to consider signing the Argentine who has performed at his very best for just half a season and Barcelona has had its share of hysterical flop signings over the past few seasons.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner has scored 84 goals in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig in just 4 seasons and is valued at only 60 million euros. Josep Maria Bartomeu has considered signing the German international and Lionel Messi has also given his assurance after hesitating in the past if the player could adapt to the pressure at the Camp Nou, according to Don Balon.

Barcelona would have to offer just 60 million euros to land the 24-year-old striker who shown consistency in a mid-table team for four seasons. The addition of Timo Werner would be a safer option rather than Lautaro Martinez who has just started showing his potential.
