The midfielder’s latest interview could be the final straw for Barcelona.

The relationship between Barcelona and Ivan Rakitic is frosty at best and was made much more chilly following the midfielder’s interview with radio station, Cadena COPE.

In the interview, Rakitic spoke about coming back to training, his fitness and how a potential LaLiga return would look like. He also talked about his discontent with the lack of communication with Josep Maria Bartomeu.

"“Bartomeu has not called me. But he can still do so. Hopefully he’s listening and he’ll call me tomorrow.”Source: Mundo Deportivo"

About his future and constant transfer speculation:

"“I’ve gotten used to my name being out there. Of course I would have liked if the president or Abidal or whoever to there’s nothing to talk about. But I’m happy and that is what’s most important.”Source: Mundo Deportivo"

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are said to be unhappy with his comments and claim that at the beginning of May, the club informed his agent that they were not talking with any other club about Rakitic.

What made things worse is that he specifically called out Bartomeu during the interview and he has enough problems as it is and does not need another one. Especially since they communicated to his agent that they haven’t talked with other teams about his client.

Despite the claim that the Catalans aren’t talking to other teams, it’s no secret that they are trying to move Rakitic. At the beginning of the season, there were talks that they were working on a possible trade with Juventus. Obviously, that didn’t work out but the rumors persisted even during the winter transfer window.

Given Rakitic is 32-years-old, he’s entering the twilight of his career and his performances with Barcelona the past few seasons have left much to be desired. He’s no longer first-choice and has been the source of constant, sometimes unwarranted, criticism from supporters.

He and Vidal are strong candidates to be moved on and it’s something he has to accept. Barcelona have younger players in his position who can do a better job for Quique Setién. With Miralem Pjanic continuing to be linked with the club, Rakitic is only going to fall further down the pecking order.

Sooner or later, every player is going to have to leave Barcelona. For Rakitic, it seems like that time is now whether he likes it or not.
