Timo Werner has made up his mind over Barcelona after the club holds talks with his representatives amid Liverpool’s tempting approach.

Despite Barcelona attempting to negotiate a move for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, the striker is more tempted with a move to the Premier League.

More from Everything Barca

The 24-year-old is highly in demand this summer with multiple European giants lining up for his services after he managed to score 27 goals in 37 appearances this season in the Bundesliga.

Reports claim that Premier League giants Liverpool are leading the race to acquire the hot talent while Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are also interested in Werner as the successor to Robert Lewandowski who is currently 31 years of age. Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on the situation as they also want to try their hand at the negotiations.

The Athletic reports that the Catalan giants have recently spoken to Timo’s representatives as they have identified him as a possible alternative to the expensive Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez.

The report continues by stating that Werner, however, has set his sights on making a summer transfer move to Anfield instead. He has recently opened up about his desire to play in a new league, rejecting the option of joining Bayern Munich.

"“If a move were to become an issue at some point, I would be more tempted by a move abroad than a move to Bayern, It’s just that the challenge of another league would appeal to me a little more than a move within the Bundesliga. Of course, it also important that mutual respect is there as much as possible. That’s why I chose RB Leipzig at the time, and why I would choose the club for [the] next step as one where I would get that feeling.” Werner told Bild (Express)"

Sadly for Barca, Werner has made it clear that he desires a move only to Liverpool and if no agreement can be reached, he will likely remain at Leipzig for another season. Even if the current Champions League cup holders are willing to sign the talented forward, the current financial crisis due to COVID-19 may force their hands into waiting another year until enough funds can be raised.

Is this the reason why Barca are pushing hard for Lautaro Martinez, knowing Werner is set for Liverpool?
