Frenkie de Jong names his desired midfield partner at Barcelona

The board at Barcelona considers signing a midfielder to compliment Frenkie de Jong’s style of play in the coming summer market.

Barcelona had announced a pre-contractual agreement with Frenkie de Jong in the 2018/19 season for a sum of 75 million euros on a five-year contract. The fans at the Camp Nou had high expectations and were eagerly waiting for the arrival of their midfielder who showcased his set of skills admirably against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

Unfortunately, the Dutch midfielder has often been played out of position under Ernesto Valverde and was hoping that his fortune would change after the club hired Quique Setien. However, it seems like the former Ajax man still has not yet fully understood his role at the club and what is demanded from him.

Despite being a debutant at one of the world’s biggest football clubs, the 23-year-old Dutch international has not shied away from voicing his opinion and there were rumours that the midfielder and fallen out with Lionel Messi after passing a statement regarding the lack of young players in the starting eleven which the captain did not take on a light note.

Frenkie de Jong has once again come under the limelight after conveying his message to the board that either of the signings of Matthijs de Ligt, Donny van de Beek or Andre Onana would be beneficial for the future of the club. However, the Dutch midfielder also did mention Orkun Kokcu of Feyenoord Rotterdam as a midfielder that he would like to partner with in the future, according to Don Balon.

The 19-year-old midfielder of Feyenoord Rotterdam has become an undisputed starter in his team this season and could possibly be selected in the Eredivise best XI or win the best young player of the season. The Turkish origin midfielder’s vision and wide passing range are his stands out qualities that have received plaudits from several managers in the Dutch League.
