Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid are currently training at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium but the first-team are likely to resume their La Liga campaign at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium instead when the league resumes next month.
Barca, however, are looking to remain at the Camp Nou after club captain Lionel Messi was consulted. The Argentine international choose the Nou Camp and after calculations were done to check the operating cost of both the stadiums, the verdict was released that the difference did not require them to change their stadium.
From the player’s perspective, Camp Nou would give a sense of normality during these difficult times, as they are used to the operations at the stadium including the travel and pre-match preparations.
The club were discussing the possibility of using the Johan Cruyff stadium because the matches are to be conducted behind closed doors. They could even use the neighboring training facility and reserve team stadium, the new Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper stadium, as it shares the same dimensions as the Nou Camp.
The quality and standard of the field at Joan Gamper stadium is fit for professional football although some changes need to be made; especially considering the camera angles for television broadcasting and VAR that would need to be installed, the stadium is not equipped as it’s only used for training.
