Sergio Busquets is the only one of the golden trio of Xavi, Iniesta and himself left in the squad and the time has come to replace him as well.

Don Balon reports that Barcelona are reportedly looking at Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso to fill in Sergio Busquets’ shoes. However unreal it may seem, the time has come to look beyond him now.

At 32, the defensive midfielder has still managed to come off as a first choice but it must be borne in mind that he’s no longer the player that he used to be at a point of time. In simple words, lasting a full duration of 90 minutes looks well beyond him.

His body is starting to wear out and the management has recognised that. Corentin Tolisso presents them with a suitable option. Bought for 42 million euros as one of the most expensive transfers of the Bundesliga 3 years ago, he has failed to prove himself and injuries have plagued his growth at the Allianz Stadium and he is now looking for an exit.

However it won’t be a good buy. The Blaugrana have got an option within the club itself in Frenkie de Jong. He can play as CDM too and injuries are likely to follow the World Cup winner, Barca will have to be bit careful with him from the moment he arrives. If a natural at that position is signed, it will allow the Dutchman to play his natural attacking game.

Arturo Vidal might be a better option as compared to Corentin Tolisso and the Catalan giants need to be wary of their limited purse while spending in the coming transfer window. A sum of 42 million euros looks a tad too much for the Frenchman due to his history with injuries and his inability to prove himself in Bavaria.

For the time being however, Sergio Busquets still has time and they should wait till the winter window when they have a much larger financial flexibility to utilize.
