Clement Lenglet shocks Barcelona board by requesting a transfer
Barcelona’s best defender this season has made surprising demands.
Barcelona’s problems are about to go from bad to worse as Clement Lenglet has reportedly asked Josep Maria Bartomeu to allow him to leave the club during this summer’s transfer window, Don Balon says. The Frenchman is unhappy at the club and mounting situations over his contract have only gone on to further dejected him.

Clement Lenglet is one of the most important players at Barca since taking over the injured Samuel Umtiti’s position on a regular basis and has subsequently developed into one of the world’s best central defenders. Needless to say, his partnership with Gerard Pique has been formidable but that may not last for much longer.
La Liga’s defending champions have shortlisted a few central defenders such as Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt and Milan Skriniar as potential signings as successors for Gerard Pique and that’s something that has not been taken well by Clement Lenglet, who feels that the club is spending through its nose for signings but not providing a better contract to one of its most crucial players in recent seasons.
Josep Maria Bartomeu’s thoughts could signal that the former Sevilla defender already has a foot or more out of the Camp Nou since the president allegedly prefers to keep Samuel Umtiti even if that means it comes at Lenglet’s cost. The chief director in Catalonia trusts the World Cup winner for great things at the club, still, but the same can’t be said about his compatriot.
Gerard Pique has already stated that he may go his own way in 2021, possibly to the MLS whereas now the futures of both of Barca’s younger centre-backs are in doubts. If Clement Lenglet indeed ends up leaving, the club would not have much to do and its defensive performance could be all that worse as compared to their catastrophes this season.
