Lionel Messi names the five unworthy players at Barcelona to the board

With the news emerging from Italy that Inter Milan will not sale Lautaro Martinez in the coming summer market despite being heavily linked to Barcelona. The Nezarrzurri will not let their Argentine forward leave unless Barca meets the 111 million release clause which seems highly unlikely given the current financial situation the Spanish club faces due to the pandemic, according to GOAL.

Given the current financial strain that Barca faces, the club has opted to turn towards selling several of its players to make ends meet for the summer. While the return of Neymar and the signing of Lautaro Martinez continues to remain as the main agenda set by Josep Maria Bartomeu for the summer, Lionel Messi has reportedly come up with a list of five unworthy players that would be better off elsewhere and their departure would certainly benefit the club financially.

Lionel Messi is set to turn 33 next month and realistically, the captain of Barcelona has maybe another two seasons where he can perform at his very best on the elite stage before its time to hang his boots for good. The Argentine forward’s contract is set to run out next summer and if the fans at the Camp Nou wish to continue watching their magician for another season or two, Bartomeu would have to fulfill his long-gone promise by building the winning project that was once promised to Leo Messi.

The 21-year-old Senegalese footballer was signed by Barcelona in the summer of 2018 for a reported fee around five million euros after showing casing his potential and talent at the top-flight Belgian division under the management of former Real Madrid player Claude Makelele at  K.A.S Eupen.

The Senegalese right-back was straight away included in the B division squad of Barcelona and former manager Ernesto Valverde tipped the right-back as one of the most promising talents. However, despite being applauded by several critics, the African footballer after being promoted to the first team struggled to get minutes under his belt as the dominance of Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto on the right-flank hampered the growth of the 21-year-old.

The lack of game time prompted the loan request that was handed in by the Wague in the winter transfer window this season and the player secured a loan to the French league on an option to buy worth 15 million euros to Nice. The Barca man’s short stint in France came to a sudden end as the Ligue 1 was suspended and was then called off for the rest of the season due to the outbreak of COVID-19 across Europe. With the suspension of the French league, Nice declined the option to purchase the player and Wague has now returned to the Camp Nou as a Blaugrana.

Lionel Messi believes that the player has to go despite being young and having immense potential. The 21-year-old right-back would certainly not grow at Barca since Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto continue to fight for the available position. Either the Catalan board must loan the player to a Spanish side to ensure he adapts to the league or the alternative option would be to sell the player for around 20 million euros.
