Barcelona have plans to sign a new midfielder over the summer transfer window.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona are going to sell their experienced midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal in the upcoming transfer window and are currently focusing on finding replacements who can help solidify Barcelona’s midfield in the upcoming season.

The Spanish giants have identified Miralem Pjanic as a potential signing to fill-in for the players who are set to leave the Camp Nou. However, as things stand, the transfer is unlikely to happen as Juventus have demanded that the Catalans include Ansu Fati in a swap deal for the Bosnian which the board has rejected.

The La Liga leaders have also shown interest in signing other players such as Fabian Ruiz and Giovani Lo Celso, but no offer has been made till now. Another player that the Spanish giants could try to sign is Mario Gotze who is set to part ways with Borussia Dortmund as a free agent.

The world cup winner has stated that he wouldn’t mind experiencing life in another league after playing all of his career in Germany. According to the Goal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen has stated that he believes his fellow countryman will adapt to the La Liga as he has the ability to advance the game and handle the ball which is essential to succeed in Spain’s top-flight.

Barca are yet to take any decision on whether they would like the sign the 27-year-old German maestro who has been out of form and has managed to be a part of just 15 league games this season. Despite underperforming in Dortmund, Josep Maria Bartomeu should sign the World Cup winner as he is an exceptional player who can improve depending on the way a team performs by providing creativity in the midfield.

Furthermore, the Blaugrana might not be able to provide sufficient amounts of funds to sign any other midfielders in the upcoming season as the management has decided to spend their limited transfer budget to sign Lautaro Martinez and Neymar along with a world-class defender to replace Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo who are set to leave the Camp Nou.
