The coaching and fitness staff of most teams would be busy as they would have to plan a new fitness regime to incorporate along with the head coach during the training sessions to ensure that the players do not sustain major injuries after three months of inactivity. Most of the Spanish top-flight clubs were concerned about whether the players would manage to play ninety minutes without picking a muscle strain, however, the Spanish FA has proposed the rule of five substitutions for the remainder of the season.
Despite the five substitution rule being a blessing in disguise for most football clubs, especially Real Madrid who boast a deep squad depth in most positions of the field, however, Quique Setien of Barca thinks otherwise. The former Real Betis man has received criticism from the general public and the players of the club after the manager complained that the new implementation of the five substitution rule would not benefit his tactics since he focuses on capitalizing during the final stage of the game when the opponents are fatigued and tired, according to Don Balon.
The manager’s behaviour of complaining has not been taken well by the board at the Camp Nou since the former Real Betis man had created a scene when he was appointed as manager of the club due to the departures of few players without his prior approval or opinion and neither has his current complaint regarding the new rule been taken on a light note.
Rumours claim that if Quique Setien fails to win the La Liga Santander this season with eleven games to go along with a two-point lead over Zinedine Zidane‘s Real Madrid, Setien would be shown the door when the season ends and Xavi Hernandez would most likely be the next manager despite his lack of coaching experience.
