Barcelona should opt to sign star defender from RB Leipzig

Barcelona must sign a defensive player in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona are set to lose Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo in the upcoming transfer window. The club must try and find a player who can efficiently cover up for the pair who are set to depart from the Camp Nou as well be able to act as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique who is 33 years old and is playing one of his last few seasons for the side.

Over the past few weeks the Spanish giants have shown interest to sign many defenders such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima konate and David Alaba. However, till now the club hasn’t been able to sign any of these players and have shown more urgency in signing offensive player such as Lautaro Martinez, Miralem Pjanic and Neymar.

Dayot Upamecano could be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

RB Leipzig’s sporting director has told his young Frenchman that he would be sold over the summer transfer window if he doesn’t choose to extend his contract with the club in the near future as stated by the Goal. The 21-year-old defender has been shown a lot of interest from teams such as Arsenal and Bayern Munich who have been impressed by the maturity the player has shown for his side.

Experts believe that Upamecano would be interested to leave Leipzig and join a bigger club in the next transfer window in order to compete for titles on a more regular basis and further improve his game by playing alongside other world-class defenders.

Barcelona should try and sign the young Frenchman before Arsenal and Bayern Munich submit offers for the young defender. Quieque Setien could try and negotiate a swap deal with the German side and include players such as Arturo Vidal, Junior Firpo and Samuel Umtiti as RB Leipzig  is expected to try and sell their player for a large sum of money. Upamecano has an estimated market value of around 50 million Euros.
