An era post-Lionel Messi that lies ahead for Barcelona

An era post-Lionel Messi lies ahead for Barcelona and the Catalan club must start planning soon on how to cope with life without their Argentine forward who is set to turn 33 this month and has a few seasons of football left in him before he has to forcefully hang up his boots.

More from Everything Barca

The captain of Barca has stood up and saved his side numerous times and has turned up at the biggest clashes with clutch performances, however, as all good things must come to an end, Messi’s time at Barca has reached its final years. Technically, the only possible replacement that the Blaugrana could line up for Messi on the right-wing would be Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Unfortunately, the English winger is heavily linked with a move back to his home country and would probably sign a deal with Chelsea or Manchester United this summer as both the English clubs have major recruitment plans in the summer market.

Although the current La Liga leaders may not get their hands on Jadon Sancho anytime soon, the club have already found a new leader with a strong voice that could one day replace Lionel Messi’s leadership legacy at the Camp according to former Real Madrid man, Wesley Sneijder, as reported by GOAL.

Is Frenkie de Jong the man to take over Barcelona post-Messi?

Wesley Sneijder certainly thinks so and has even applauded Frenke de Jong’s decision of signing for Barca as the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan man belives that Barca is the perfect destination for Frenkie’s style of play.

Despite having a tough adaption period at Camp Nou, the young-midfielder is keen on finding his form once again to help his team win the Spanish League ahead of Real Madrid who are only short of two points from topping the table.

The retired Dutch international also tipped Lautaro Martinez to sign for Real Madrid over Barcelona and went to say that the Argentine forward must first win at Inter as it is a beautiful feeling before he makes the big jump to the Santiago Bernabeu.

What do you make Sneijder’s comments? Does Frenkie de Jong actually have the capability to be the future leader of Barcelona and would Lautaro Martinez snub Barca for Real Madrid as Sneijder said?
