Barcelona and the coming summer transfer market.

As Quique Setien prepares the Barcelona squad for their upcoming away fixture against RCD Mallorca who currently face the threat of being relegated, the former Real Betis manager still continues to hope that the big change that was planned for the summer falls in place.

More from Everything Barca

Unlike every other summer market where fans anxiously wait for their favourite teams to announce galactic signings, this summer would be a whole different ball game since the pandemic has caused several economical imbalances at several clubs, including the current La Liga leaders.

The only 3 options Barcelona have at raising money

With Samuel Umtiti injured and Ousmane Dembele’s decision of continuing at the Camp Nou, and now the only shot Barca has at raising money is through selling Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The former Liverpool has struggled to find his feet at Barca for almost a season and a half and his loan at Bayern Munich has been no different either. Having said that, there would be no reasonable reason to believe that the Brazilian midfielder would hit the ground running under Quique Setien and Barcelona have rightfully decided to part ways with their most expensive signing.

According to Eldes marque, the only three options that Bartomeu has on his table are from Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle United. Some rumours claim that out of the trio, Newcastle and Chelsea are willing to pay a hefty fee as when compared to Jose Mourinho’s side who prefers a bargained price.

This summer might be the only realistic shot at selling the flop signing from Liverpool for a hefty price given the current demand before its too late and the club lose most of their high-paying suitors.

The fate of Barca in the coming summer market lies in the hands of Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle United. If Philippe Coutinho leaves for approximately 80 million euros it would increase the club’s transfer budget along with their wage budget since the former Liverpool man is one of the best-paid players at the club.
