Barcelona have been looking to get rid of Coutinho since quite some time now but their hopes of selling him have taken another hit.

As per Express, Chelsea are not interested in signing Coutinho as they believe that the 27 year-old is not really worth of a deal in excess of £90 million.

Coutinho is currently out on a loan at FC Bayern and Barcelona have shown almost no interest in making the deal permanent. Should Chelsea opt for a loan, they will have to pay Barcelona a sum around £9 million and cover Coutinho’s wages.

The Blaugranes have apparently made the availability of the Brazilian star public and a lot of teams have been offered to buy him as well. While Coutinho’s agent did mention that going back to the Premier League is on the winger’s mind, a move this time around looks highly improbable. Once the financial conditions of the clubs involved begin to improve, a move may be inevitable then.

Chelsea have instead opted going for the likes of Timo Werner and Bayer Leverkusen’s 20 year-old winger in Kai Havertz. The youngster has shown some great promise and has the potential to become a superstar of the game. Moreover, he is a long-term prospect for the club and is cheaper than Coutinho. He is valued around £70 million.

The Catalans need to work on their transfer strategy. We have a seen a bit too many failed experiments which has had a profound impact on the team chemistry and stability. Investing in the youth should be the priority at the moment Barcelona should avoid singing big name players without giving a thought about the impact on the team on their arrival.
