Jordi Alba Returns To Former Glory

Jordi Alba was greatly benefitted by the break as it gave him the physical and mental rest that he clearly needed. Barca have been in the market for a new left-back that would give support to Alba throughout the campaign.

The Spaniard, however, contributed heavily in the match against Mallorca as he was seen playing like his former self, pushing forward in every chance that he got to cause opposition some trouble with his pace and crossing abilities. He showcased that he has not lost his touch to connect with Lionel Messi and co. to create chances as he not only assisted Arturo Vidal’s goal but also scored one himself.

But Alba also picked up a suspension after receiving a fifth yellow meaning Setien will have to adapt for their next match on Tuesday against Leganes with Junior Firpo or Nelson Semedo as the options.

Ronald Araujo, Ideal Centre-Back

Much to everyone’s shock, Ronald Araujo started a match for the first time in his Barca career alongside Gerard Pique and the youngster’s performance was impressive, to say the least.

Clement Lenglet’s suspension placed Samuel Umtiti as the expected striker but the French international’s latest recovery issues due to recurring injuries handed the 21-year-old his first starter debut.

Setien showed that he is not afraid to give chances to youngsters, which is a really great aspect as the current squad is filled with them. Araujo used this opportunity to impress the Spanish coach enough to possibly get more chances in the near future as Barca have 10 more league games this season.

"“He was playing in a different role to what he does for the B team but he was solid in every aspect. He has a very cool head and he did very well. He played superbly and he can be very proud.” Setien said post-match. Source FirstPost."

Barca are currently looking for a new center-back as they want to sign a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique but perhaps using Ronald Araujo could be the perfect alternative as the youngster will save a lot of funds during a financially struggling period for the club.
