The break may have been a blessing in disguise for Jordi Alba

It’s no secret that this season has not been one of Jordi Alba’s best. After being a consistent threat out from left-back, injuries have kept him off the field and have hampered his performances.

If Barcelona were to lift any type of silverware, they needed him to get back on track.

Against Mallorca, it looked like the old Jordi Alba was back. He had a solid game defensively and going forward, he provided the assist for Vidal’s header and scored their third goal following a Messi pass.

The break seems to have let Alba rest and heal from his injury. It’s something he noted in his post-game interview.

If there were to a blemish on his night it’s that he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season which means he will miss their next match at home against Leganes. On the bright side, he’ll have a clean slate and be available for their crucial match against Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Again, Alba rarely put a foot wrong which is a positive sign for Barcelona. They are a team that depend a lot on their fullbacks. Especially with Alba as his partnership with Messi continues to be a reference point for this team.
