Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have been closely linked with a move to Barca and Los Blancos respectively but if the Ligue 1 leader’s sporting director, Leonardo de Araujo’s words are anything to go by, then the two superstars are likely to stay.
Leonardo, speaking to Journal du Dimanche, expressed the reality that both the forwards have two years remaining in their current contract and the club are planning to renew them both for the future.
"“They still have two years of contract and we are already looking to the future. We want to move forward, nothing tells us that they are not here next season.” He said.Source Mundo Deportivo"
The current proposed project at Parc de Princes, stated by Leonardo himself, is that they want to continue to fight for the Champions League alongside both Neymar and Mbappe.
A further update on how PSG handled the situation.
"“Neymar and Mbappé are 28 and 21 years old and they are here. There is not much to ponder. We are lucky to have them because it is something huge. Then we have to find the solution to continue the adventure together”"
While Neymar is being closely linked with a return to Camp Nou after the Brazilian publically stated his desire to reunite with former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, it is Mbappe that the French side are most adamant to keep. He is often predicted to be the future of PSG at the age of 21 years but Real Madrid are closely monitoring his situation.
Leonardo, however, remains optimistic about securing the World Cup winner for years to come,
"He is the future of PSG. He is what everyone wants. The ideal scenario would be to renew his contract” Leonardo said."
It remains to be seen if Barca manages to convince Leonardo enough to let Neymar leave considering the player’s willingness to force a termination clause by applying Article 17 of FIFA transfer regulations.
Should Barca use FIFA to secure Neymar or use the many talented wingers at their disposal at Camp Nou?
