Barcelona may not be able to complete their biggest transfer of the summer.

Barcelona kept the pressure on Real Madrid as they bagged an unconvincing, yet important 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. Ivan Rakitic scored the all-important goal, his first since March 2019 in La Liga but the plaudits were once again grabbed by Lionel Messi who provided the 250th assist in his career just a few minutes shy of his birthday.

More from Everything Barca

Antoine Griezmann has now gone seven league fixtures without a goal whereas Luis Suarez still remains scoreless after his return from injury across four outings. Quique Setien has a lot of room for tactical improvement, but at the same time Barca’s recent fixtures have evidenced their need of signing a striker as soon as possible.

Lautaro starts to have his own doubts.

Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez has been their primary target all this while, but not a single official offer has been made by the Blaugrana. The Serie A giants have suggested that there is interest from the Catalans, but they will not get rid of their lethal marksman for anything less than 110 million euros. There is a big twist in the tale now.

Diario GOL has claimed that the Argentina international is no more keen on a move to the Camp Nou and Barca have notified the same to Lionel Messi. The 22 year old believes that it’s still too early to head to the Camp Nou after reconsidering the prospect and feels that Luis Suarez will continue to be the first-choice forward for another year.

Moreover, Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in the player despite just signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter for 50 million euros. While Barca may be his preferred destination, Lautaro prefers playing time and if money is on his mind, then certainly there is not much competition with PSG also chasing him, apparently so.
