Barcelona’s drawing board seems to be at its limit this season.

They have several key transfers to make and the one ranked highest in the order of priority is finding a replacement for Lionel Messi, who is rumored to leave the club post the expiry of his contract in 2021.

More from Everything Barca

As per IB Times, Real Madrid’s upcoming transfer move could see Barcelona staring down at a massive heartbreak. Both the sides have struggled in recent times, but Real Madrid finally seem to be coming to terms with Ronaldo’s departure and their recent well-knit performances speak for them, too.

Coming to Barcelona, they have been relying heavily on Messi. Luis Suarez isn’t the player he used to be and bringing in a replacement for him is long due. Lautaro Martinez seems to be the ideal candidate to replace him. Messi, 34, is enjoying his last years at the club and the Blaugranes have considered the option of Kylian Mbappe to be his ideal replacement. They are under immense pressure to win the UCL, a trophy they haven’t won since 2015. The Blaugranes are trying to do everything in their power to make it happen but Messi’s rumoured departure from the club at the end of his contract only makes matters worse for them.

The Los Blancos are apparently preparing a massive $359 million bid in order to land the Frenchman. Yes, this might come as a huge surprise given the financial impact of the COVID-19 situation. However, it seems the massive sum will be paid in four installments over the course of two seasons. The arrival of Mbappe would mean that Real Madrid will have surpassed Barcelona in terms of raw pace and agility.

Neymar has made it clear that he wants to leave France by the end of this season and his fellow Frenchman is likely to follow him as well. Mbappe can consistently notch up over 30 goals every season and he still has a lot of time on his side. This precisely why he is the correct man to replace Suarez and take over Messi’s reigns.

While us, the fans are left in an eternity to ponder about Messi’s future, the very fact that Barcelona is considering someone like Mbappe as the ideal ‘next ace’ for the team might provide some solace. Having said that, they need to go one step further and quickly prepare themselves for a huge bid if they are to outsmart and overtake their rivals.
