PSG have broken off contract renewal talks with Barcelona target, Neymar.

Barcelona have been known to be interested in reuniting with Neymar especially now with Lionel Messi wanting to leave in 2021 but Paris Saint-Germain are surprisingly silent over the Brazilian’s future.

Surprisingly, the French side are not bothered with Neymar’s contract at the moment as they feel that they have plenty of time to sign a renewal before it’s expiry in 2022, at which point he will be allowed to leave for free.

Sport via L’Equipe reported on Saturday that PSG’s sporting director, Leonardo, is not planning on speaking with Neymar and his representatives about his future despite them awaiting an official meeting for the same.

What has been discussed between the two sides so far?

Originally, the two parties involved had planned to discuss before the coronavirus lockdown back in march but no talks have been held since, with the club no longer interested in discussing at the moment.

While the return of football at Parc des Princes might put pressure on Leonardo to hold a meeting as the Ligue 1 Champions still have both Champions League and the Coupe de France Finals against Saint-Étienne on the 24th of July.  Leonardo is currently on focused on securing Kylian Mbappe on a new deal as the 21-year-old is more valuable for the club in the long run.

Meanwhile, Neymar’s contract expires in 2022 with no signs of a contract extension despite Leonardo being optimistic about securing a deal when the time comes, despite the Brazilian international’s repeated request of wanting a transfer to Camp Nou.

While it is impossible to believe PSG will let Neymar see his contract through and leave for free in two years, their contract renewal hopes are also likely to not happen with Barca keen on securing Neymar in order to make Messi remain beyond 2021.
