More from Everything Barca

Rumours emerged that the Argentine forward and his father decided to stall the current contract negotiations after they have reportedly grown tired of how the club has been managed for the last few seasons under Josep Maria Bartomeu and Eric Abidal.

Messi has been a part of Barca for 20years but has never spoken so poorly and candidly about the club in public before. The captain has expressed his views on social media about Eric Abidal criticizing the squad and also posted a long message on his Instagram account regarding the salary cut issue. Leo had also stated while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo that the current squad is not strong enough to compete for all competitions and especially the Champions League.

This has been the first time the shy Argentinian has been so outspoken which gives every Barcelona fan a proper reason as to why his threat of leaving the club in the summer of 2021 might just fall into place.

"“I’m not going to explain the details because we are focused on the competition and we are negotiating with many players, but Messi has explained to us that he wants to stay and so we’re going to enjoy him for much longer,” – Josep Maria Bartomeu continued to state."

Jorge Messi, the father of Leo Messi had demanded the appointment of Xavi Hernandez to ensure his son’s renewal at the Camp Nou. However, official reports state that Xavi has signed a contract extension with Al Sadd and the board at Barca has reportedly shown confidence in Quique Setien to continue as head coach for the 2020/21 La Liga Santander.
