One of the most recent and sensational developments in world football is the rumoured departure of Lionel Messi from Barcelona post the expiry of his contract in 2021.

As per Ibtimes, Lionel Messi is already being chased by two clubs with the biggest purse in world football now. It seems like PSG and Manchester United are trying to land the 32-year-old.

Barcelona have struggled to win the UCL since the departure of Neymar back in 2017 and haven’t been at their consistent best. There’s no fixed XI and the line-up almost changes every week, and this just is the tip of the iceberg. The Blaugranes have got much deeper problems than that.

One, there has been a steady increase in the reliance on Messi to do the goal-scoring part and to provide with assists. First Coutinho, and then Griezmann were brought in to address this issue but it seems to be far from over. The second most pressing matter for the ones handling the drawing board is the need of a long-term replacement for Pique and Suarez who seem to have lost the flair they once had. To add to all this, the club has endured a UCL trophy drought which has lasted for more than 5 seasons now. All this just adds to the frustration that Lionel Messi has been carrying all this while.

While we have two potential superstars for the Argentine Ace, it seems highly unlikely that Messi will join either of the teams. He has always been upfront about his desire to end his career at his childhood club. Some pundits even agree to the speculation that the 32-year-old might end up staying at the Camp Nou for a few more years. It seems this might be his way of getting the club aligned with his et of demands.

Coming back to the transfer rumour, Lionel to Old Trafford seems an unlikely move as he will not adjust to the team dynamics and given the current situation at Manchester United, they shouldn’t consider going for Messi. The deal is expected to shoot up till at least $120 million in addition to two players.

Coming to PSG and going by their purse one can adjudge that almost every player is within their financial reach. Moreover, they might be tempted to reunite Neymar with Messi given their success in the past while working together. This would also lead to the formation of one of the most lethal attacks consisting of Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi (possibly).
