The board of Barcelona led by Josep Maria Bartomeu as the president of the club along with his right-hand man Eric Abidal who is the director of the club has been the primary reason behind all the issues that prevail at the Camp Nou currently.

Josep Maria Bartomeu since becoming the president of the club has made over 20 signings, however, most of the signings have been expensive flops or unnecessary signings that club does not require. Some of the expensive flop signings in recent years under Bartomeu has been Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Neto, Malcom, Andre Gomes, Arda Turan and many more as the list is almost never-ending.

Apart from making poor decisions in terms of signing players, the board has also been involved in several other controversies.  This season, six board members had resigned from their position after they penned a joint letter which stated that the board was forced to deny all the accusations regarding the hiring of bots and hackers to defame the club when it was actually a true phenomenon.

The board has also carried out a few sly deals such as the signing of Neymar from Santos and the signing of Kevin Prince Boateng and Paulinho. There has been no logical reasoning or statements from any of the members of the club as to why Kevin Prince Boateng and Paulinho were signed and why was a certain sum of Neymar’s transfer fee to Santos paid to a private company instead. The board has also stirred controversies after controversies with every passing year.

The departure of Arthur Melo this summer and the signing of Miralem Pjanic in return has probably been the final blow of the board as Lionel Messi and his father have lost all their patience and have no plans on extending their stay in Catalonia.

Real Madrid has changed their philosophy in the last few years from always buying players in their prime for huge sums to now focusing on signing young talents to build a future such as Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and so on.

The Los Blancos have also been smart with their departures, Florentino Perez managed to sell Alvaro Morata to Chelsea for 60 million pounds and the player has never found his form since his departure from the Bernabeu. The club also sold a 33-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for 100 million euros and in return signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

Florentino Perez has made many smart decisions when it comes to selling players and the recent sale of Achraf Hakimi to Borussia Dortmund has now seen the Los Blancos generate a figure close 1000 million euros.

Meanwhile, Barcelona has been extremely foolish in recent years. The Catalans have spent just 270 million euros on Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, meanwhile, Real Madrid have managed to sign Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Martin Odegaard, Marco Asensio for less than 50 million euros.

Barcelona’s nemesis is its board and Lionel Messi’s possible departure in the summer of 2021 will be because of Josep Maria Bartomeu and his team. The only possible way Messi would renew his contract is if the board changes and a new coach is appointed ahead of Quique Setien.

Florentino Perez has paved the way for Real’s success for the future meanwhile Josep Maria Bartomeu has taken Barcelona to the cleaners because of his foolish operations.
