Liverpool urged to reunite with struggling Barcelona star if he apologizes.

Barcelona midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, has publically requested a move to the Premier League as he no longer wishes to resume his career at the Nou Camp after a previous poor spell. Liverpool have emerged as the dream destination as the Brazilian international can reunite with the club that made him successful in the first place.

More from Everything Barca

Things with Liverpool, however, have not been the same ever since his departure in 2018 where coach, Jurgen Klopp, had insisted he remained. The German coach once requested the talented midfielder to stay at Anfield to make history together but the Brazilian was adamant about joining the Catalan side for the same.

Ironically, it was Liverpool and Klopp who found major European success since his departure as the coach wisely reinvested the funds he received for Coutinho’s transfer. The Reds were crowned the European champions last season and have officially been named the Premier League champions this year when there were still 7 matches remaining till the end of the campaign.

The Premier League side, however, lost 4-2 (aggregate) against Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 of the Champions League this season which has triggered the German coach to sign additional attacking reinforcement for next season.

Coutinho has been named the perfect man for this purpose as Bayern Munich have refused to sign him permanently for the fee of 120 million euros. Barcelona are also adamant about selling the midfielder to increase existing funds in order to secure players like Lautaro Martinez or Neymar, as Coutinho’s sale could be the ideal solution.

Why Coutinho Should Apologize?

Former Premier League striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, considers Coutinho to be a quality signing for Liverpool as he is exactly what the team currently needs. According to him, Klopp should consider reuniting with his former superstar under the condition that he receives an apology from him for leaving in the first place.

"“For me, I’d go out there and get Coutinho back, 100 percent. I’d probably say, you have to apologize for the way you left but come back. Because for me, he is what Liverpool are missing. Coutinho needs to be the main man in the team, and at Liverpool, he would be.” Agbonlahor speaking on Stadium Astro."

The reason Gabby is requesting an apology is that Klopp truly tried everything to keep Coutinho which he revealed in an interview on Sky Sports.

"“We all tried everything to convince him, I cannot give you the details but believe me, when I say we tried it all” Klopp told Phil Thompson."

It remains to be seen whether Klopp chooses to reunite with the 28-year-old as Barca are prepared to reduce his transfer fee due to the financial implications on the current market that has been heavily influenced by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
