There’s a storm going on at Barcelona now and if unchecked, it promises to take away their most prized possession with it; Lionel Messi.

As per Goal, Barcelona’s performance in the transfer market might not go as planned. These testing times for the club are about to get worse.

Their prime targets were Neymar and Lautaro Martinez. While talks regarding Martinez’s future are still going on, the deal looks difficult for the Blaugranes to seal. Inter are demanding close to £120 million in cash and the Catalan giants do not have that kind of money with them now. Barcelona have suffered some losses financially due to the ongoing pandemic. The road to recovery might take them up to a year.

Failed experiment in Coutinho continues to haunt Barcelona as the midfielder has stalled his decision about his future until the end of Bayern’s UCL spell. The Blaugranes need to find a way to recover at least half the amount that they spent on him.

Coming to Neymar, the deal will not go through simply because they lack the financial strength now to land him. Earlier, it was believed that in order to get Messi to stay, the Blaugranes had to get either of Neymar or Martinez. Failure to land both will lead to the departure of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Among other things, there are the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Aturo Vidal. While Dembele is heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer, Barcelona want to keep Vidal for another season despite interest from Inter Miami. Manchester United stand as the favorites to sign Dembele as they consider him to be a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho who is currently valued at £100 million. The Blaugranes might just let go of him for half the fee.

The former La Liga champions must make some sacrifices if they are to land either of their top two targets. They must squeeze out funds and make adequate sales for the same. Coutinho and Dembele sure do present as attractive options and Barcelona need to look hard at every request that comes in. getting rid of Dembele and Coutinho might be a blessing in disguise owing to the fact that Dembele is highly injury prone while Coutinho’s playing style just doesn’t suit the team dynamics.
