Potential Barcelona president hopes to bring a new coach in 2021.

Barcelona presidential candidate, Vitor Font, claims Quique Setien will not remain past 2021 with hopes of reuniting with a club legend.

More from Everything Barca

Setien has come under a lot of criticism despite having a greater and improved impact on the squad than their previous coach, Ernesto Valverde. Perhaps the reason why the 61-year-old has been tipped to be sacked in the coming weeks is because of the internal quarrels between the coaching staff and their players.

There is no surprise that Lionel Messi and co. have a clear problem with Setien and his right hand, Eder Sarabia. The problem has been significantly worsened by the club’s latest results since the restart as Barca lost their previously held lead over Real Madrid, who are currently 4 points ahead in the La Liga table.

The squad believes that it is Setien’s lack of tactical adaptation that has lead to this decline with the attacking trio being particularly frustrated by the lack of passing options when playing as a 4-3-3 against strong defensive lined opposition.

Regardless of which team it is, the players have more influence over the board than the manager and if the whole squad does not trust the coaching staff, it is the coaching staff that will be removed and not the players.

Another major problem at Camp Nou is the way the current board under president Josep Maria Bartomeu is operating. Lionel Messi has been the most vocal about his dissatisfaction with the board and has threatened to leave if the club does not sign quality players this summer.

With Bartomeu up for re-election next year, many of the potential candidates have raised their opinion on the matter with one particular presidential elect being Victor Font, who has recently given his thoughts on Setien.

"“He’s the current Baca coach so, for that reason alone he deserves all our respect and support. For me personally he’s a coach I’ve always liked but it’s true too that he’s not the coach we’re backing for the future.”Source Sport"

A clear statement that if Font is elected he will no longer appoint Setien, but then

who is it that would lead the squad to glory?

Font believes that the right man for the job is none other than Blaugrana legend, Xavi Hernandez, who has already been heavily linked to make a return in the near future.

"Absolutely. It’s true that Xavi will be the coach when he decides, whoever is president, because Xavi is patriomony of Barcelona and their biggest hope. But I’m sure there will not be another project that has worked for so long to ensure that the sporting project that Xavi has in his head can be executed with the maximum chance of success. Font continued."

Majority, if not all, of the Presidential candidates share a strong belief that Xavi will be the centre figure in Barca’s future projects for many years to come as he truly understands the club’s philosophy.
