Barcelona are in a state of shock as they face an unexpected situation

Barcelona has been poor this season from all the different factors involved in football. The defence has been shambolic, the squad contains more senior aged players who are past their prime rather than youngsters, a spineless manager and coaching staff along with the world’s most slack and incompetent board. To make matters worse, Lionel Messi has even decided not to renew his contract and this is the current position where the Catalan club stands.

However, the misery just does not end there. The first solution towards guiding the club back to where it belongs is signing the correct players and selling the misfit players from the club. But has Barcelona done that in the recent years? Absolutely not, the club has sold several potential superstar’s including the likes of Malcom, Yerry Mina, Marc-Cucurella, Lucas Digne, and have now even sold Arthur Melo to Juventus.

Has the club made any useful signings over the years? The club has signed a few players who have been pivotal to the club such as Clement Lenglet, Luis Suarez, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and so on, however, the list of flop signings outdoes the list of the beneficial players as the Blaugrana have spent a shocking 954 million euros on just 27 players since 2015.

954 million euros on only 27 players making a return on investment almost impossible since a majority of those signings have tragically failed including the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

As mentioned earlier, the most important step for Barcelona is to get rid of the misfits and the older players who are way past their prime. Ousmane Dembele was the one that the board considered to load off this summer as the only method the club have at raising funds for the transfer market.

But can the Blaugrana actually sell Dembele for a decent amount?

Jurgen Klopp had considered signing Ousmane Dembele this summer after there were rumours linking both Mohamad Salah and Sadio Mane with moves away from Anfield. The German manager was willing to even offer 100 million euros for the injury-prone Frenchman.

However, the Reds could not even make an official bid worth 60 million euros for Timo Werner who eventually signed for Chelsea. If Liverpool could not sign Werner for 60 million euros, then purchasing Dembele for 100 million euros is completely out of the question.

Manchester United have also shown interest in procuring the services of the former Borussia Dortmund man as the Red Devils have considered Dembele to be the replacement if the Jadon Sancho operation fails.

If the Blaugrana do manage to load off Dembele to United this summer for around 60 million euros as the player is valued to be around 56 million euros. However, Barca would have to pay 20 million euros to Borussia Dortmund as an agreed sell-on clause when Dembele was signed in the summer of 2017.

Although the board cannot be held responsible as nobody expected the French forward to turn out as one of the worst signings in the club’s history. The board should have sold Dembele last season when his market value was a lot higher rather than giving him another year which was proven to be suicidal.

Another mistake that could have been avoided only if the club had an efficient board and president.

What is your opinion on the current board led by Josep Maria Bartomeu?
