Barcelona are set to receive a discount on a long-time target.

Barcelona are targeting a replacement for their lethal forward is Luis Suarez as one of their most important objectives heading into the summer. The Uruguay international has four in the last five games and is in a rich run of form, but his inconsistencies need no introduction and the less said the better about it.

More from Everything Barca

Inter Milan’s frontman Lautaro Martinez has been brilliant under Antonio Conte and alongside Romelu Lukaku in the Serie A, and is wanted by the Catalans. The 22 year old has struck 17 goals this season and also laid five assists. With that said, the Nerazzurri referred Barca to his release clause worth 111 million euros amid interest.

However, the major catch with the release clause was that it was only valid until the end of the first week in July. Barcelona failed to act when they should have and their sellers were expected to hike the superstar’s price in a bid to keep him at the club at least for another season. According to Express, the Italian giants have made a strange call.

There may still be complications.

Seeing Lautaro Martinez’s eagerness to join Barca and potentially even boycott training and matchdays for them, Inter Milan are now expecting just 90 million euros from the deal. Lionel Messi is thought to have played a critical role as his first-hand convincing in landing his compatriot at the Camp Nou seems to have reaped benefits.

In spite of seeing the price slashed by 20 million euros, it’s doubtful whether a financially troubled Barca side can afford to sign their own and their captain’s chief target. As such, Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Junior Firpo and Nelson Semedo have all been rejected by the Serie A outfit in a proposed swap deal, who insist on the agreement involving full cash.
