Barcelona need to sign a defender.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona have a terrible defensive record this season where they have conceded 36 goals in 36 league games. To add to the Catalan giant’s misery Samuel Umtiti is keen on leaving the Camp Nou and is rumoured to join the Premier League, this transfer is bound to overstretch the club’s central defenders Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet from performing effectively in the upcoming season.

Quique Setien hasn’t been able to bring any defensive changes to the Camp Nou till now and seems to be focusing on making offensive changes to the squad. Despite the Spanish club’s defence being an issue Barca have decide to try and spend their limited transfer budget to sign the expensive transfers of Neymar and Lautaro Martinez.

Kalidou Koulibaly has hinted that his future lies in Napoli.

The 29-year-old Senegal international has an estimated market value of around 70 million euros and due to his outstanding performances over the last few seasons he has been on the radar of many big European clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona. However, recently Koulibaly has passed a statement in which he stated that he has 3 years left in his contract and all that he is focusing on is playing in the Italian league for Napoli as stated by the Express UK.

Despite the defenders passing statement many believe that at the end of the season Koulibaly might be tempted to leave the club considering the fact that as things stand, Napoli are missing out on a spot which will give them an opportunity to play Champions League football in the upcoming season.

The Spanish giants must try sign to sign the defender who is expected to have a transfer price set at 90 million euros, Barca could try to offer Napoli a swap deal to reduce the asking price for Koulibaly and offer the Italian club players such as Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal, Junior Firpo and Philippe Coutinho.
