Dembele leaves Barcelona hanging after his recent decision

Tough times lay ahead for Barcelona and the club’s fans as Real Madrid are practically the La Liga champions of the 2019/20 season after their hard-fought win against Granada and now the only shot Barca has at winning some silverware is the Champions League where they would have to overturn the previous one all draw which was played at the San Paolo Stadium.

Barcelona was eagerly waiting for the summer transfer market as well to make amends and to build a stronger squad for the 2020/21 season, however, the pandemic has vastly affected the financial reserves of the club leaving them with almost nothing to spend.

Although the price of Lautaro Martinez has fallen from 111 million euros to 90 million euros after the release clause of the former La Liga striker’s expired on the 8th of July, Barca still struggles to meet the new discounted rate.

The first option the Catalans have considered is to sell Ousmane Dembele this summer to generate the funds for Martinez. The French forward who has been a massive expensive liability for the club due to his hefty wage rate along with long injury history has reportedly decided not to leave the Camp Nou as he wants to continue playing for the Blaugrana and has even turned down Manchester United’s offer, according to Eldes marque.

The Red Devils continue their relentless pursuit to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, however, the Premier League side has considered Ousmane Dembele as an alternative to the English winger from the Bundesliga.

Manchester United was even willing to pay a decent fee to Barca that could have been used to either sign Lautaro Martinez or any of the transfer targets that the club has in mind. Nonetheless, Dembele has decided against the move as he hopes to run his contract out in Catalonia that is set to expire in the summer of 2022.

Who should Barca sell then?

With Dembele out of the picture, the possible players that Bartomeu could consider to offload this summer would be Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic, Junior Firpo, or Luis Suarez. Who do you think Barca should sell this summer? Luis Suarez seems highly unlikely since the player is a close friend to Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique.
