Time is up for the French superstar of Barcelona after four seasons
Samuel Umtiti‘s time at Barcelona has come to an unfortunate end as the board hopes to sell the 2018 World Cup winner this summer after the club has reportedly grown tired and has lost all patience with the former Lyon central-defender.

The French defender has spent four seasons so far at the Camp Nou, however, his debut season in 2016 and the following season of 2017 were the prime years of his career as Umtiti transitioned as one of the world’s best defender’s during those two years.
However, after the World Cup victory in Russia, Samuel Umtiti has struggled with game time and in the last two seasons, the defender has only featured 23 times for the Blaugrana out of the 76 league games.
Why does Barca want to sell him
The former Ligue 1 man was suffering from minor injuries in his knee and his condition deteriorated massively following the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The club had advised Umtiti to opt for a surgery that would keep him out for a long time, however, a successful surgery would remove the burden of possible injuries in the future in most cases. Nonetheless, the 26-yeara-old refused surgery in his knee and has sustained two major setbacks this season.
Eldes marque reports that the club has grown tired of the player who barely contributes to the game as he is mostly injured and has decided to sell him this summer after the defender has been linked heavily with Arsenal, Napoli, Lazio, and Roma.
Samuel Umtiti is still 26-years-old and has ample time on his hands to work on his conditioning and recover like never before. However, Barcelona cannot continue to pay the player’s hefty salaries while they have little to no contribution to the team.
A bold step has been taken by the board as Umtiti is extremely talented and has a lot of potential in him, but for now, the club has to focus on their finances as the outbreak of COVID-19 has had a major impact on the club’s financial stability.
