Barcelona have been wooing Lautaro Martinez and Neymar, for a long time now, in order to address the attacking issues. However, things seem stagnant for the Lautaro deal as negotiations have been halted until August; while in terms of Neymar, Paris Saint-Germain have finally greenlighted the transfer but are also demanding a hefty fee.
The Catalans now desire Manchester City’s talented winger who could perhaps make the difference for the squad, as they suffer from an underperforming Antoine Griezmann and aging Luis Suarez. Bernardo Silva, at 25 years of age, has been named the ideal signing, with many more years remaining in his prime.
Silva’s versatility and ability to excel as a winger on either flank, a second striker or even as a central midfielder, is what makes him so attractive. He times his runs tremendously well, looking for a weak spot in the opposition to catch them off guard and score. This ability on the ball, along with his intelligence off it, is what the Spanish Giants look to acquire from Pep Guardiola’s City.
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the recent failed signing like Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, Barca are facing significant financial troubles. To this effect, they are biding their time before approaching the Portuguese national, and intend to raise some cash by selling Griezmann prior to making any deal.
While the Board at Etihad have a contract with Bernardo that runs until 2025, the Spanish giants could take advantage of their relationship with his agent, Jorges Mendes for a possible deal, should they manage to sell Griezmann.
While convincing City to make a sale for one of Guardiola’s favorites could be an impossible task, finding a club who would sign Griezmann could be the more troubling part. The French striker, who had some rare glimpses of the genius, had a bumpy first season at Camp Nou.
Disappointing performances, for the most part, the world cup winner has failed to live up to his expectations and Barca will surely find it difficult to sell their 29-year-old especially with his high transfer fee and expensive wages. While Barca have been trying to use him as part of an exchange deal for Neymar, they could also look to the Premier Leauge to find suitors.
City have recently been given the blessing of continuing their dream of securing a Champions League under Guardiola’s era after having their ban lifted. While Barca may be interested in Bernardo, it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese wishes to move especially considering how the Premier League side are planning to spend heavily in the next transfer window.
