The highly acclaimed youngster has chosen the Catalan side over their arch-rivals Real Madrid with the club now confirming that the 16-year-old has signed a three-year contract. He will start off his career with the ‘B’ squad where he would train to earn a spot in the first-team alongside fellow youngster Ansu Fati.
The Spanish side were once known for their incredible ability to produce outstanding players from their youth academy, La Masia, but have failed to live up to that expectation in recent years. While the youth system continues to work hard to give the first-team as much support as needed to remain the very best, Barca have also often opted to acquire talents from elsewhere.
Their latest signings of 17-year-old Pedri and 20-year-old Francisco Trincão is a huge sign that the club are in fact planning for the future, which could potentially feature a Barca with their legendary player Lionel Messi.
President Josep Maria Bartomeu has now managed to secure another youth prospect, and this time its Rayo Vallecano’s Spanish prodigy, Luzzi. The club have the option to extend the current contract by two additional years if needed unless the forward manages to completely fit the Blaugrana philosophy, at which point a new extended deal is imminent.
"“Fast and agile, [Luzzi] stands out due to his nose for goal, which he have demonstrated by being top scorer in all of the junior categories he has played in,” Club’s statement read.Source AS"
This signing allows Quique Setien, or a future coach, to have youth and depth in his squad. Culers could potentially see a future attacking frontline consisting of only youngsters with Ansu Fati, Luzzi, Pedri, and Trincao, along with midfielders like Riqui Puig, Álex Collado, Frenkie de Jong and many more.
It is an exciting time for the many youngsters available, but the club must be careful not to make the same mistakes they did with their current young superstars like Ousmane Dembele and Arthur Melo.
When would you like to see Luzzi with the first-team?
