Barcelona must establish a stronger defence in the upcoming season.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona haven’t been able to defend effectively this season, the 2018-2019 La Liga champions have conceded 38 goals across 38 La Liga matches this season despite having one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German international has been phenomenal over the past few seasons and has found himself on the radar of the 2019-2020 Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich who have shown great desire to sign the superstar from Barca who can act as a long term replacement for Manuel Neuer who is 34 years old and is playing one of last few years of football.

Many believe that the Spanish giants haven’t been able to be fortify their defence effectively this season as their central defenders Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet have been overused this season due to a series of injuries picked up by the French international Samuel Umtiti. Over the past few weeks there have been rumours that have stated that the French defender has no future in the Camp Nou and could leave the side over the summer transfer window with a potential transfer move to the Premier League as many teams such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have shown interest.

Barcelona could try to sign Nathan Ake.

The Sun has stated that teams such as Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have shown interest to sign the 25 year old central defender from Bournemouth for a sum of around 40 million euros over the summer transfer window. The Netherlands international who was valued by his club at 80 million euros last year has been one of the best players for his side who are getting relegated this season. As Bournemouth have been relegated this season many expect that the defender would be keen to leave this club and join a team which competes for trophies on a regular basis.

The Catalan giants should try to lure Ake away from Manchester City,Manchester United and Chelsea. Barca can try and offer Bournemouth a swap deal in which they could include a players such as Junior Firpo and Philippe Coutinho. However, if the Spanish club are unable to sign the defender Quique Setien must show more urgency to sign other world-class defensive players such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahim Konate to strengthen their defence in the upcoming season.
