For long, Barcelona has been criticized for their inability to make crunch and bold decisions in the transfer market. Over the past 2- years it does seem like their motto is only about purchasing big-name players, not keeping the team balance in mind. Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann stand as prime examples of their poor performance in the transfer market. They decided to do one better this time around when they decided to let go of the prodigy in Arthur Melo in return for the 31-year-old Miralem Pjanic.

Since the past few weeks, there have been rumors linking Griezmann with a move away from the club. The Frenchman has been the subject of interest for Manchester City and Manchester United. At a point it seemed like the 26-year-old was extremely dissatisfied with his treatment at the club and even had extensive talks with the board about his future.

Having recently reached 7 million followers on Twitter, Griezmann tweeted:

The forward has always had a connection with number ‘7’ in his career with the former Atletico player even sporting it during his tenure at his former club. However, Coutinho already had the number 7 when he first arrived at the club and could not take it then. When the Brazilian left for Bayern last season, he could not take ‘7’ as he already was sporting ‘17’ and the season was already underway. With a new upcoming season, fans might get to see Griezmann in his traditional number ‘7’ jersey and hopefully, it might even rekindle his old form.

Barcelona should be mindful about the morale of their players as this season saw a widening gap between the players and the manager with Messi even openly disclosing his discontent with the club’s performance and the manager only contradicting him, days later. Things need to change at Camp Nou and only those managing the club know the best about the changes required. Barcelona are currently preparing for their UCL clash against Napoli.
