Lionel Messi has insisted Barcelona secure this Leeds’ Argentine coach.

Lionel Messi has chosen an Argentine coach as his ideal manager to replace Quique Setien at Barcelona for the next season.

More from Everything Barca

Marcelo Bielsa is up for a new contract with Leeds and is yet to sign one with just 1 week remaining in his current deal. Reportedly, Messi wants Barca to lure the Argentine compatriot and replace the current coach, Quique Setien.

Coach Setien came under a lot of criticism after Barca lost the La Liga to their rivals, Real Madrid. Initially, they had a lead but with poor management as well as inconsistent performance on the pitch, the Blaugranas quickly slipped down the table and lost bitterly.

A rare occurrence was the club Captain’s vocal expression of his disappointment with everyone including the President. While club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, made some questionable moves like selling young Arthur Melo for an aging Miralem Pjanic just to be financially secure, it’s his open dismissal and blaming the players, especially Messi, for all the club problems that led to Messi’s anger and outburst.

While the Argentine and Spanish coach have also never gotten along, their differences have started to affect the game and Messi strongly believes that new leadership is the need of the hour. He believes that the Yorkshire boss could turn things around for them, especially after the way he exceptionally handled the Leeds. He not only led them back to Premier League but also helped them win the Championship title.

While Bartomeu has one year left on his tenure, he may look to bring the Argentine coach in to please Leo and convince him to secure a contract renewal. While Bielsa has an expressive and dominant play style that could fit in very well with the Barca philosophy and way of playing, it remains to be seen whether he will agree to move as a one-season solution for the Catalans.

While Laurent Blanc and Patrick Kluvert have also been named as possible replacements for Setien, it remains to be seen what the board does amidst the rising tensions due to the politics of the Presidentship and elections.
