A new era at Barcelona with the youth playing a major part in the project.

Barcelona have been criticized for failing to rely on their academy to produce sensational talents like before, which has resulted in an aging squad in 2020. Things are about to change, however, as the club desires to heavily invest in the youth for the 2020-21 campaign.

More from Everything Barca

The famous Barca academy, La Masia, is well known throughout the world for producing some of the best footballers to ever play the sport, with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Carlos Puyol, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and many more, being the latest generation of incredible talents.

After failing to produce any more players of a similar caliber, the club shifted their focus on securing big money transfers such as Neymar, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, and Antoine Griezmann, to fill the void.

This resulted in the famous Blaugrana philosophy, of using their youth, slowing fading away with the latest campaign being the proof of a lost cause. While the current campaign remains a disappointment, for the most part, La Masia graduates Ansu Fati (17) and Riqui Puig (20) are without a doubt the club’s biggest successes.

The board have recognized that the current squad lacks the motivation and drive to succeed with Fati and Puig being the few members actively looking to make a difference during their performances. Even the latest addition of reserve team defender, Ronald Araujo (21), has shown promise with Samuel Umtiti being linked with a departure to make room for the youngster.

Barca’s latest signing of 17-year-old Pedri and 20-year-old Francisco Trincao shows the club’s desire to build for the future. Even ‘B’ team youngsters Alex Collado (20) and Monchu (20) have both been predicted to be promoted next season.

The Spanish giants also have many youngsters loaned out with Jean-Clair Todibo (20), Mousa Wague (21), Juan Miranda (20), and Oriol Busquets (21) all hoping to secure a future at Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, these youngsters will be playing alongside some of the best youth talent available in the world with Frenkie de Jong (23), Clement Lenglet (25), and Dembele (23) looking to guide the youth.
