Barcelona and Manchester United prepare to go head to head

Barcelona and Manchester United have had a turbulent 2019/20 season. However, the Red Devils managed to change their fortune as the signing of Bruno Fernandes played a crucial role for Manchester United to finish in third in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Barca still remains a poor side after losing out the league title to Real Madrid.

Both the clubs have reportedly considered signing a central defender this summer transfer market to bolster their squad for the 2020/21 season. The Metro claims that the Red Devils are set to battle it out with the Catalans to sign one of La Liga’s most talked about defenders this season, Pau Torres.

The cheap defender that both the clubs want

The 23-year-old defender of Villarreal has been a force to reckon with this season in the defence. Pau Torres is a strong towering defender as the youngster is 6’3 feet tall and is a certain threat in the air during set pieces or while defending set-pieces.

Apart from his strong physical conditioning, Torres is a brilliant holder and passer of the ball as the left-footed defender is calm and composed player even while being pressed.

His strong defensive display this season for Javier Calleja has earned him a name amongst some of the topmost teams in world football.

Pau Torres has been linked with several clubs including Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and so on. The defender has an estimated market value of just 11 million euros, however, the Yellow Submarines will be demanding a figure slightly higher than that to cope with the losses incurred due to COVID-19.

The Catalans could snatch Pau Torres off the radar from the Red Devils by offering a slightly higher offer, however, it would not be a waste as Torres has displayed the potential to transform into a world-class defender and the Spaniard could be the ideal replacement for Gerard Pique.
