Barcelona watch Real Madrid close in on their lost transfer target

The winter market of the 2019/20 season saw some exciting moves which included Erling Haland to Borussia Dortmund, Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United, and Steven Bergwijn to Tottenham Hotspur. Barcelona was also keen on landing a superstar during the winter transfer market and the player on their agenda was Rodrigo Moreno of Valencia.

More from Everything Barca

The Catalans wanted to land Moreno from the Mestalla as a replacement striker for Luis Suarez who then had sustained a major injury and was supposedly set to miss the entire season due to an operation that was required.

However, the deal was called off as the Blaugrana and Los Ches were unable to come to an agreement and it was reported that Barca lacked the funds to sign the striker as well. The winter transfer market passed and the Catalan side made no signings, however, after Ousmane Dembele’s long term injury, Barca had no option but to sign Martin Braithwaite as an emergency signing.

Reports now claim that Real Madrid is closing on as Barca’s lost target

Zinedine Zidane is planning on continuing the same dominance next season in the league and the French manager has a few names up his sleeve as possible signings. However, Real are currently focused on selling their players as they find themselves in the same boat as Barca monetarily.

However, unlike Barca, Zidane has the advantage of a deep squad that could be used to sell a few unwanted player’s such as James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale, meanwhile, Quique Setien has an extremely limited aged squad.

Diaro GOL reports that Real Madrid has reportedly closed in on signing Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia as the French manager believes the 29-year-old to be the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema. Luka Jovic and Mariano have failed to secure a spot in Zidane’s plan and all directions seem to be pointing towards an exit for both the individuals.

Meanwhile, Bartomeu had even considered Rodrigo Moreno to be the ideal replacement for Lautaro Martinez if the transfer operation fails, however, Real’s current interest seems to be serious threat to the club.

Next. Barcelona are shocked as their saviour considers a switch. dark

The Catalans plan on offloading Philippe Coutinho, Martin Braithwaite, Arturo Vidal, and Ivan Rakitic this summer to garner the funds to sign Martinez, however, if they fail to do so, Barca must quickly turn their attention towards the Mestalla before Real rack up Moreno.
