Barcelona receive a setback in their chase to sign their prized forward

Barcelona has been on the search for a striker to replace Luis Suarez for quite some time now. The Catalans initially had several players on the list including the likes of Luka Jovic, Lautaro Martinez, Timo Werner, and so on. However, a year later and with the widespread COVID-19, Barca faces a serious financial crisis and the chances of signing a goal-scorer seem slim.

More from Everything Barca

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan has been the priority signing of the Catalans, however, the 22-year-old is priced at 90 million euros after making his breakthrough in the Serie A this season. Martinez has only risen to fame this season after scoring 20 goals in the Italian league and is now wanted by several clubs including Manchester City who consider the player to be the replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Signing the Inter striker could be a huge task for the Blaugrana given their current state and the stiff competition they face from Manchester City as well. The next alternative on the Catalan’s list is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal.

Aubameyang grows impatient with Barcelona

Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang has been lethal yet again for the Gunners scoring 29 goals in all competitions which includes his brace against Chelsea in the FA Cup final that sealed his first trophy since he left Borussia Dortmund for the Emirates Stadium.

However, at the age of 31, with not too many trophies in his cabinet, Aubameyang has considered a move away from north London in search of trophies. The Camp Nou apparently seems to be his favourite position and so does the board of Barca believe so.

Having said that, Eldes marque now reports that the Catalans have only a few hours left to offer the Gabon international a contract, or else he will be signing a three-year extension with Gunners.

If Barca is seriously interested in signing the former AC Milan man, then the club must offer the contract straight away. One must consider that Aubameyang is 31-years-old and although he is a world-class forward, does Quique Setien really require another aged player?
