Barcelona are close in on appointing a flop manager to replace Setien

Quique Setien‘s time has run out as the manager of Barcelona after the club was embarrassed and toyed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. Hansi Flick’s side managed to score eight goals against the Catalans from which four of them came in the very first half of the game.

More from Everything Barca

The players seemed clueless on the field and were absolutely dominated by the Bavarians. So much so, Flick even ordered his defence to maintain an extremely high defensive line that could have easily been exploited by Barca had Quique Setien laid out a proper attacking plan.

The Cantabrian manager opted to bench Antoine Griezmann which could have been considered as his biggest mistake before the game. Had Griezmann started the game, the outcome could have been slightly different as the forward could have used his pace to penetrate the high defensive set up.

However, what’s done is done and now the club must focus for the 2020/21 season. Quique Setien will no longer continue as the coach for the upcoming season and several rumours now claim that Barca has considered appointing Thierry Henry to replace the former Real Betis man.

Appointing Thierry Henry would be a massive mistake

With all respect to Thierry Henry who is considered one of the greatest forwards to have graced the field, the former Barcelona footballer is a clueless manager and would certainly be a flop if appointed as the coach of Barca

. Henry was appointed as the manager of AS Monaco where he failed miserably, as the Frenchman was sacked after just 20 games of being in charge while just registering four wins and eleven losses.

Josep Maria Bartomeu believes that Henry would be an ideal candidate to replace Quique Setien only because the forward had once played for the Blaugrana and knows how to handle a dressing room of this stature.

Although Henry might be a professional at man-management and handling the players, the Frenchman is a certified failure in the coaching department. With a certain lack of experience as a manager along with a poor managerial record, appointing Thierry Henry would be another serious mistake.

The club could consider other options in the market such as former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino who would be an ideal manager for the club given the attacking style of football he implements.
