Lionel Messi wants a huge change at Barcelona soon.

Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona is looking uncertain as his contract is due to expire in June 2021 and the club simply doesn’t seem to pull up its socks. The Argentina international is reportedly going to leave the club if he doesn’t see a proper change in the roster and matters from top to bottom at the club.

Diario GOL has claimed that the forward wants the change at the top to come first and foremost. Messi continues to insist that Josep Maria Bartomeu is the wrong man to lead the Blaugrana and he must not stay at the club beyond his tenure. The 33-year-old wants the return of Joan Laporta, and absolutely rightly so.

Under their current president, the club did win a treble but the memories have been more negative than positive. In the last two years, the board has been the subject of major slack as a result of its failed signings. Ever since selling Neymar for 222 million euros, Barcelona have spent 100 million euros plus each on three players, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho, only to see each of them fail in their own ways.

Most of the current Barca squad is catching up with age as the board seems to have no interest in sporting matters. However, what’s worse is that the Blaugrana are in a horrible position even from a financial standpoint. The club is struggling to sell deadweight and the prospect of landing its targets, at least this summer, seems like a distant prospect.

Laporta is the right man, all things considered.

Joan Laporta on the flipside, was a president of incredible zest to lead the club to places and made an impression on every possible aspect. He foresaw the development of La Masia, one of the world’s most prestigious academies back then, which subsequently was in poor hands and ultimately is nowhere close to one of the best around.

The 58-year-old is likely to return to the Camp Nou in the 2021 elections and has promised the signing of Neymar and appointment of Xavi as head coach. With Lionel Messi a major part of his plans, it’ll be imperative that the winger stays patient and renews his stay. Having said that, it would be exciting to see what the future holds for Barcelona.
