Pep Guardiola’s agent speaks out Guardiola’s future
While we almost have a near confirmation of the appointment of Roe Koeman as the new manager of FC Barcelona, we still await an official announcement.
As per the Mirror, another managerial candidate closely associated with Barcelona is that of Pep Guardiola. In the aftermath of the 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern, Barcelona straightaway sacked Quique Setien, 6 months into his appointment. Barcelona endured one of their worst seasons in recent times and the fans as well as the players have called for changes to be made.

While Setien has been officially sacked, the favourite to replace him is former Barcelona player and captain, Roe Koeman. The Dutch National team manager is rumoured to be leaving the International managerial job in a bid to help his former club. This comes following the fact that Pep Guardiola’s agent ruled out any possibility of the former Blaugrana manager returning to Camp Nou.
The Manchester City boss’ future came under speculation after the Citizens failed to make it to the semis of the UEFA Champions League. Guardiola had a brilliant run at Barcelona, reaching the landmark of a quadruple in his 4-year stint. Pep’s agent also confirmed that the 49-year-old will be staying at the Etihad Stadium and talks are “ongoing” with the club to extend his contract further, which is set to run out after next season.
Barca are deeply in need of a change. While many changes can be made externally, the change that would matter the most in these current times is the one that would come from within. No doubt, it was a horrific loss against Bayern and the wounds might remain fresh for a very long time. The XI that faced against the Bavarians failed to show any sort of intensity or the hunger to win and it was one of the main reasons they lost. The result was decided even before the game started and by half-time, the Catalan giants had given up. There will be many sackings made and a complete revamp from the scratch can be expected.
