Barcelona received the ultimate insult of the season when they were thrashed 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the UCL Quarterfinal with Coutinho scoring a brace.

As per Mirror, Koeman is a fan of Coutinho and the Brazilian’s future has been blown wide open with Ronald Koeman at the helm. Coutinho scored a brace against his parent club and which is why it is safe to assume that it is going to be a tricky situation for the winger to walk back into Camp Nou, in two weeks’ time.

More from Everything Barca

If Ronald Koeman’s past comments are to be believed, he is a fan of Coutinho and considered him a potential important player for Barcelona, following his transfer speculation back in 2018. Coutinho failed at Barcelona and  he wasn’t given an extended run. He was consequentially sent on a loan to Bayern Munich where he was decent if not extraordinary. Bayern Munich did not exercise the clause which allowed them to  buy the Brazilian star.

However, his 10-minute cameo in the quarterfinal showed why Barcelona purchased him for a record fee back in 2018 and the Catalan Giants might not be too unhappy about having him back.

Two years have elapsed since Koeman’s comments and one does not know where the 57-year-old holds Coutinho in his plans. There have been no comments made but the Club President Bartomeu has made it clear that Coutinho will stay at the club should Koeman include him in his plans.

Barcelona have started their transition process, and this will be a sudden one rather than the gradual transition. This is because the club is basically in a state of emergency following a horrific season and the signs for the future too, don’t look too great. The former Southampton manager has already outlined a few plans for the transfer market with him looking to let go of many as 6 senior players. He is also keen on selling Suarez to free up some funds which will allow him to inject some fresh blood into the ageing Barcelona line-up.
