Barcelona considering a free agent as the perfect defensive reinforcement.

Barcelona have found the perfect replacement for aging Gerard Pique despite already nearing the signing of Manchester City, Eric Garcia.

More from Everything Barca

There is no doubt that the Catalan side will be looking to secure a new quality center-back to play alongside Clement Lenglet. City’s Garcia has been the man strongly linked with a return to Camp Nou after refusing to sign a contract renewal. The Premier League side are aware that they must either sell him this transfer window or risk losing him for free next season.

The Catalan side are aware of this dilemma and have refused City’s 30 million euro asking price for the same reason. They have counter-offered a discounted fee of 15 million and await the response of Pep Guardiola’s side. Barca are prepared to wait for a whole season for Garcia’s arrival but need to secure a new defender for next season amidst Pique’s exit talks.

Reports suggest that the Spanish side have found the perfect candidate for the role. Nice defender, Malang Sarr, has been identified as the man for the job as the French international has become a free agent after failing to reach an agreement for a contract renewal.

The defender has enjoyed a successful spell with Nice managing 119 appearances for the French side and is regarded by many as one of the best defenders in the league. Sport had reported earlier that Barca’s recently sacked sporting director, Eric Garcia, had made an official contract with the footballer.

It remains to be seen if the current coach, Ronald Koeman, desires the move but the club must move quickly as many Italian and Premier League sides have shown interest.
