Barca are currently rebuilding the squad after realizing that the multiple embarrassing exits from the Champions League are due to a major flaw in the sporting project. The board has decided to not only bring changes to the entire squad but also the management.
While both the manager and Sporting Director have since been sacked and replaced, the future of many of the veterans are also being linked with a departure. Suarez is one such veteran who has found tremendous success at Camp Nou but could potentially be leaving the club this transfer window despite having a contract in place.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a potential move back to Ajax but boss Erik ten Hag has denied making an attempt, saying “Not true.” But the Dutch coach does put the ball in Suarez’s court after stating that he could come if he wishes.
"“You are always looking for ways to strengthen your team. Of course, I have discussed it with Marc, but at the moment it is not a theme. You have players that you get as replacements and you have players in the category that they give an incredible boost to the team. Suárez falls into that category.” Ten Hag talking about Suarez.Source AD"
The Uruguayan international played for the Dutch side from 2007 to 2011 and has never refrained from the possibility of making a return. The current Barca coach, Ronald Koeman, has been linked with wanting to sign the midfielder, Donny Van de Beek. Meanwhile, the club are attempting to sign reinforcements to convince Lionel Messi to stay which might include signing a new left-back, particularly fellow Argentine, Nicolás Tagliafico.
So many possible deals with Ajax could potentially trigger a swap deal which could including an aging Suarez for both Van de Beek and Tagliafico. Of course, Suarez’s transfer fee alone will not be enough to convince the Amsterdam side but it remains to be seen what solution Bartomeu brings to the table.
Should Barca attempt to swap Suarez for young and promising talents?
