The internet has been going berserk in the last few hours given Lionel Messi’s transfer request to Barcelona. The Argentina international is absolutely fed up with the board and can’t stand being at the club of his lifetime for another season, despite Josep Maria Bartomeu likely to vacate his role by the end of the 2020/20 campaign.
Here’s a look at how the world’s biggest social media network reacted when the news broke, and was eventually confirmed to the Associated Press by Barca.
Carles Puyol’s cryptic message suggested that the year’s biggest football transfer story may actually bear some truth…
Respeto y admiración, Leo. Todo mi apoyo, amigo.

Was Luis Suarez’s reply a further evidence that there may be truth in the supposed rumours?

Gary Lineker, a former Blaugrana man himself knows what it’s like leaving one of the world’s biggest clubs and wants peace should Messi go, rightly so.
If Messi is to leave @FCBarcelona by activating a release clause, then I hope the club try to help, not hinder him. He’s been fiercely loyal and their greatest ever player. It would be terribly sad if it finished with a fight between the player and the club.

What does the future hold for the world’s greatest player? Do you reckon it’d be another Luis Figo saga though chances are as minimal as they could be?

Can Chelsea pull off another stunning arrival in what’s been a productive summer?
Just heard Frank Lampard is now in for #messi

Some window this if Lamps pulls this off !!
And the last and not the least, could this actually be a pressure move and trump card played by Messi and his close associates to force a boardroom change?
Regardless of whether Messi stays at Barcelona or goes, Bartomeu has to resign. Absolute shambles of a presidency, crystallised in the total disillusionment of the club’s greatest-ever player

In a transfer story that simply seems ridiculous and as hard to believe as possibly it could be, the only likelihood that one comes to terms with Messi not being a Barcelona player would be when he actually holds another jersey or there’s an official and public confirmation by either him, or the Blaugrana.
