Lionel Messi’s possible departure would benefit Barcelona and himself

Nobody expected this day to come when Lionel Messi could possibly leave Barcelona after 20 long years at the club. In the summer of 2018, the world was stunned as Real Madrid announced the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and now it seems like Barca would face the same fate.

More from Everything Barca

However, it would be a whole different ball game for the Catalans. The Blaugrana have been highly dependent on Leo Messi for several years. This season could be used as a prime example as well, the Argentine scored 20 plus goals in the league along with 21 assists, however, that was not enough for Barca to win the league as the rest of the squad heavily underperformed.

Barca has reached such a point that they simply cannot perform without the Argentine forward. When Messi is on the pitch, it is either pass the ball to Messi and hope for him to pull off something magical or let Messi drop deep and create an attack.

So much so, that this heavy dependence has disrupted the team shape, player roles, and tactics as well.

It is high time Barcelona prepare for the future without Messi

Let’s say Messi does not leave the Camp Nou this summer, however, the player is still 33-years-old and the club must start planning for a future without him. Messi simply cannot continue performing at the highest level day in and day out, which is the very reason why this heavy dependence must come to an end.

If Messi does leave the Camp Nou this summer it would in fact be a blessing in disguise. Barca would finally learn and prepare for a future without him which was much needed. Although the coming season might go horribly wrong without Messi, the club would eventually pick pace in the coming years.

Messi leaving Barca would also free up a huge amount of money as well. The club is currently in a state of crisis and Lionel Messi earns 99.6 million euros a year. His departure would free up an ample amount of cash that could be used to either sign players or offer better contracts.

It is sad to say, but Messi leaving Barcelona is an actual blessing in disguise. It is rumoured that Manchester City is the favourites to sign the forward and only time will tell whether Messi would continue at Barca.
