Manchester City have offered three players plus cash to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola is thought to be a decisive factor in the Argentina international’s preference of heading to England, not to mention his friendship with Sergio Aguero through the national team.

More from Everything Barca

Manchester City have enough resources to be able to afford the Barcelona captain and have now made an offer to land the forward, Express has reported. The Citizens will offer 90 million pounds plus three players for the 33-year-old. Bernardo Silva, Eric Garcia and Gabriel Jesus constitute the list of men who have been offered to the Catalans.

Barca could reap major benefits from the swap deal as they get in a fantastic midfielder in the shape of Bernardo Silva, a solid and young defender in Eric Garcia who they were anyway wanting, as well as Brazilian marksman Jesus who can successfully replace Luis Suarez who has been deemed surplus to plans by Ronald Koeman.

Moreover, the club would get nearly 100 million euros in cash which will allow them to sign practically any other player across Europe. But however good a deal may be, letting Messi go as part of it simply feels ridiculous. The club is now crossed over the player’s contractual situation which remains the next issue that has to be solved.

The entourage surrounding the Argentine believes the player can go for free despite the 10th June deadline having passed. Due to the unforeseen length of the season, there is belief in the players camp that the clause still prevails. Finally, Barcelona, having already been sided by La Liga opinionate that the 700 million euro release clause is in effect given the calendar dates.
